The ‘Era of Mass Production’ seeks to invert the relationship of a traditional home’s energy consumption through a redistribution of material mass, while employing a unit massing strategy to address the isolation created by our dependence on a digital world.
‘Era of Mass Production’ repositions the material assembly of the traditional home by distinctly separating structure, thermal envelope, & weather resistant barrier (WRB) into disparate parts, creating what Joseph Lstiburek (Ph.D., P.Eng.) calls the “Perfect Wall.” Increasing insulation, while reducing exposure to exterior walls through urban unit massing strategies, the home can achieve Passive House standards, resulting in extremely efficient, healthy and comfortable homes. Creating a terraced array of the units with ample outdoor space to grow and play adjacent to a public street nurtures an environment of social, rather than digital interaction.
