Cambridge Common House
About This Project
Boutique Hospitality / Adaptive Reuse / Historic Renovation
Cambridge Common House is the adaptive reuse and expansion of a historic Harvard Square property into a boutique hospitality destination for Lark Hotels and Kinvarra Capital.
Located at the edge of Cambridge Common, the project transformed an aging lodging house into a contemporary guest experience while preserving the scale, character, and architectural presence of the existing structure within one of Cambridge’s most historically sensitive neighborhoods.
The project involved a full gut renovation of the existing 2.5-story building, a carefully integrated rear addition, and complete modernization of the building systems and life safety infrastructure. The design balances historic preservation with modern hospitality expectations — creating warm, highly detailed guest rooms and communal spaces that feel connected to both the history and evolving culture of Harvard Square.
The completed project includes guest accommodations, accessible common areas, hospitality amenities, outdoor gathering spaces, and upgraded accessibility throughout the building, coordinated closely with the Cambridge Historical Commission and local permitting authorities.
