About This Project
Office & Light Industrial
When Balance embarked on the renovation of 400 Wood Road in 2019, the objective was clear: to transform it into a modern workspace suitable for a life science tenant. Now, four years later, amidst a slowdown in the life science construction sector, the property has found new life as a hub for office and light manufacturing, thanks to The First Electronics Corporation.
Originating from Boston with a legacy spanning over 60 years, FEC specializes in crafting custom electrical assemblies for challenging environments. Their existing campus in Dorchester, comprised of multiple aging buildings, lacked adequate space, light, and modern amenities. For FEC, 400 Wood Road represented an opportunity to revolutionize their operations.
Through strategic spatial planning and the installation of a prominent interior curtain wall, the new design promotes visual connectivity between manufacturing, assembly, and engineering teams. A striking barrel vault traverses the front section of the building, seamlessly linking various areas and departments. Natural light floods every corner of the manufacturing floor, a stark departure from the dim confines of FEC's former facilities.
