After years of experience in both large and small firms, we saw the gaps and set out to create something different: a firm driven by purpose, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. Philip Sima Founder Architect + Certified Passive House Consultant Phil is a Registered Architect, Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC), and Principal at Balance Architects. Before founding the firm in 2018 he worked at world-renowned firms in Copenhagen, Berlin, Montreal, and New York. He focuses on high-performance, mixed-use, and urban developments, with a specialization in adaptive reuse. He has taught and lectured in the U.S. and abroad. Phil's journey in the building industry began during summers as a student at McGill University, where he gained hands-on experience working in construction. After graduating from McGill with a degree in Environmental Studies, he continued his passion for building as a carpenter with a 'green thumb.' He then pursued a Master’s in Architecture with an emphasis on sustainability from the University of Texas at Austin. |

Chad Wulleman
Co-Founder Architect Chad is a Registered Architect and Principal at Balance Architects, where he leads the Life Science and Commercial projects. His journey began with studies in civil engineering and fine arts, culminating in a Master’s degree in architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology. To deepen his understanding of the built environment, Chad spent several years in the construction field, exploring the dynamics between designers and contractors. Chad’s multidisciplinary background allows him to approach each project as a unique challenge, crafting tailored solutions that integrate diverse perspectives. Before co-founding Balance Architects, Chad worked with talented teams across the Northeast on projects nationwide, gaining invaluable experience that shapes his leadership today. |

James Bailey
Project Manager James Bailey's introduction to architecture began working as a framer during summers where he learned the fundamentals of light frame construction and the relationship between construction documents and the built form. James went on to receive his Master’s degree in Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology. Soon after graduation, he travelled cross country to California where he spent four years working for an award winning architecture firm that specializes in mega mansions in Los Angeles and across Southern California. It was there that he was exposed to the professional practice of architecture and began to appreciate finer construction details both in the field and on the computer. Since returning to Massachusetts, he has worked for many talented design teams with a focus on single family residential and mid-sized mixed use developments in and around Boston. |

Rongshan Zhang
Architectural Designer Rongshan Zhang began her story with architecture in Shanghai, China, where she studied urban planning in Tongji University before getting her Master of Architecture degree from University of California, Berkeley. With degrees in both Architecture and Urban Planning, she has a strong interest in the role architecture could play in cities. During her school years, she spent a lot of time visiting different countries and cities in Asia, Europe and the US, and eventually decided to make Boston the starting point of her professional career. As a member of Balance Architects, Rongshan is excited to work with a variety of talented teams and clients to help make cities a better place. |

Lesia Tysovska
Architectural Designer Lesia is an Architectural Designer with a Master of Architecture from Northeastern University. She began her professional career at one of Ukraine's leading architectural firms, Zotov & Co, after earning her Bachelor of Architecture from Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. During her time there, she worked on a wide range of projects, from residential developments to urban design, starting her passion for creating impactful city spaces.After graduating with her master’s, Lesia joined the team at Balance Architects, where she is thrilled to contribute to and deliver thoughtful, high-performance design solutions for the projects. |

Akshit Sethi
Architectural Designer Akshit Sethi is an Architectural Designer with a diverse background spanning multiple cities and cultures. After earning his Bachelor of Architecture in 2019, he explored the architectural landscape of India, gaining hands-on experience in residential interiors and architectural design while immersing himself in the unique design languages of different regions. Driven by a passion for innovation and a global perspective, Akshit pursued a Master of Architecture at Northeastern University. After graduating, he joined Balance Architects, where he brings his expertise and creative energy to crafting thoughtful, high-performance design solutions that shape inspiring spaces. |
