Rampe de la plage transforms the relationship of shore to beach by extending the experience into the river as opposed to on it’s edge. Whereas a traditional beach ends at the shore, La Rampe begins at the shore, guides us between the reeds, through the shallows, beside the river’s wake, and up to the apex where we panoramically behold our surroundings before we make the plunge into the flueve st-laurent. From an ecological perspective, a floating beach frees up the shore to be repopulated with native species, promoting a healthy ecological state. L’amenagement reduces erosion, creates habitat for plants and animals, filters run-off and can slow storm surges. A natural shore creates a great fishing environment and a living classroom to study the ecology of the flueve st-laurent. The Rampe is a multipurpose aquatic infrastructure that includes a shallow end for children (.5m-1m) and a deep end for diving (off of the ramp), swimming and playing. Both swimming areas are walled by a perforated mesh that allow the river water in while keeping out large debris.
